The focus in Year 1 is to build upon the foundations set from the Early Years. Through a thematic curriculum, we aim to develop children’s confidence and skills in all areas of their learning. We do this by enabling children to explore their learning environment in active, creative and fun ways. Our children learn through play-based activities which encourages them to become independent learners and critical thinkers, whilst also encouraging curiosity.
In the autumn term Year 1 will be undertaking an exciting project, based around the question, “How Does History Change Things?” Within the project we will find out about the Great Fire of London, discovering when and where it started and how it spread. We will find out about Samuel Pepys and how he recorded the events in his diary.
As part of our project work we will have a visit from a real life fire fighter to compare what fire fighting was like in the past and how it has changed today.
