Purpose of the group and actions

  • The purpose of the group is to research how reading is being taught and delivered across schools within our cluster.

  • The main aim is to use our findings to develop outstanding teaching strategies that will enable children to maintain and achieve enhanced progress that not only ensures children will meet age related expectation, but that allows children who are working within greater depth to be challenged.

 

Key discussions and actions

  • Each school has looked at current practice within their school and how reading is being assessed and tracked.

  • After analysing our data we have shared key messages in how reading is currently being delivered within the curriculum, which has allowed us to focus on best practise and areas to be developed.

  • Each professional was given a research focus ensuring that key areas of interest could be researched, with findings shared at a later date.

  • These areas included; accelerated reader, family research projects, developing vocabulary, engagement/ pupil voice, reading for pleasure/ parental engagement, early language acquisition, reciprocal reading.
