High Level Teaching Assistants
Our high level teaching assistants [HLTAs] would normally work across school teaching classes when teachers have planning, preparation and assessment [PPA] time, if they have leadership responsibilities or in the event of a teacher’s absence. However, as the vast majority of PPA happens on a Friday afternoon to reduce the movement of staff between classes during Covid 19, the HLTA role has changed at Wath CofE Primary School. Mrs Yates covers absence across the Foundation Stage and KS1, Mrs Beynon does this in Year 3 and Year 4 and Miss Newton does this in Year 5 and 6. This provides excellent capacity to cover classes in the event of absence with staff who are trained in school systems and know the children and curriculum extremely well. As well as this, each HLTA works with individual pupils in their phase of school to close learning gaps in phonics, reading, writing and maths.
